Projects

Hoots Wood Information
The aim was to create a new small woodland composed of tree species for Nightingale habitat. Created as part of Worcestershire’s county species action plan.

  • 100% grant gained
  • Clearing of 3 pools within the area
  • The project represents a major environmental investment in the locality

Leominster
The aim of the project was to establish a diverse mixture of habitats for the benefit of wildlife. The area was originally waste ground. A hay meadow has been created comprising of a pond with associated wetland, a traditional orchard and some areas of shrub. Hedges and trees have been planted to enhance the site. This is an on going project with a long-term relationship being established between the trustees and ourselves.

Llwyn Cecil Farm
The aim was to create small areas of woodland around horse training stables.

  • Planted as part of the Welsh Bio-diversity Plan, 8000 mixed broadleaved trees were planted
  • The aesthetics of the farm were improved with the implementation of strict landscaping and forestry design principles
  • Hedgerow renovation, hedge planting and the laying of a wild flower meadow

The Fedw Farm
A large area of woodland was planted alongside a public footpath and associated stream. A mixture of native trees was planted, with local wildlife being encouraged back into the area via the stream and hedgerow corridors.

Pentre Farm
Initially involved in a complete environmental assessment of the entire farm system. Valuable ecosystems were identified, including one of the most northern ancient Beech woodland fragments in the British Isles.

Entered into the 1999/2000 National New Native Woodland Challenge fund; a national competition. The project is judged on design, planting and subsequent management techniques. Upon winning the grant, 35 acres of native woodland was planted around the existing woodland.

After the success of the previous year, two extra fields were purchased and entered into the 2000/2001-challenge fund. The challenge fund was won and a further 27 acres were planted with native trees. The combined plantings now represent one of the largest newly planted native woodlands within a wide region.

Conservational management is the prime objective on this site; wild life is actively encouraged back into the woodland ecosystem with several different management techniques.

We are Immensely proud, both commercially and personally, of what has been achieved on this site and anticipate spectacular developments.

Work has also been carried out with the local school, with trees being planted in the school grounds for future study. All materials and labour were donated free of charge.

Stanley Pugh Farm
A large area of the Rhonda Valley was taken out of sheep production and entered into the Bracken Challenge fund. The area was made stock proof and a helicopter was used to spray the bracken which was up to 7ft. in height. A total of 55,000 trees were planted on the side of the mountain. This project represents a major step forward for the area with a private individual planting large areas of broadleaf woodland, rather than Forestry Commission coniferous plantations. The visual aspects of the area will be greatly improved as the trees develop.

Tree planting in another woodland on the estate has also been carried out and hedgerow planting and renovation completed.

Environmental assessments and management plans have also been constructed. The farm estate has now been entered into the Tir Gofal scheme run by the Countryside Council for Wales and the Welsh Assembly. The woods have now had a 5 year Native Woodland Plan constructed by ourselves and paid for by the Forestry Commission.

Achards Farm, Gloucestershire
The renovation of the estate and associated woodland and trees. Regular maintenance visits are carried out.

Whitehall Farm
The mapping of an ox-bow lake and an environmental assessment of the area.
